Summer in Colorado Springs: Life as a Notary Loan Signing Agent
Summer in Colorado Springs is a beautiful experience. The skies seem bigger, the mountains are breathtaking, and the sunshine is almost always inviting you to get outside and enjoy the day. But as someone originally from Atlanta, Georgia, there is one thing about summer in Colorado Springs that still surprises me: the lack of air conditioning in many homes.
Growing up in Atlanta, I learned very quickly that air conditioning is not just a luxury—it is a necessity! Atlanta summers are hot, humid, and sometimes downright miserable if you are not somewhere with a good air conditioner. Most homes, offices, stores, and just about every other building have air conditioning. You spend much of your summer going from one air-conditioned place to another, trying to escape the heat and humidity outside.
Then I moved to Colorado Springs.
The first summer I experienced here, I quickly realized that things are a little different. Colorado Springs has a much drier climate, and the evenings can cool down considerably. Because of that, many homes do not have central air conditioning. Instead, people rely on open windows, fans, and the natural coolness of the Colorado evenings to keep their homes comfortable.
For someone from Atlanta, this can take some getting used to!
As a notary loan signing agent, I have the opportunity to visit all kinds of homes and meet people from all walks of life. During the summer, I might arrive at a signing appointment expecting to walk into a cool, air-conditioned home, only to discover that the windows are open and fans are running. Sometimes, I have to remind myself that I am no longer in Georgia!
Of course, I am not complaining. There is something wonderful about the Colorado climate. The dry air makes the heat feel different from the heavy humidity I remember from Atlanta. And when the sun goes down, those cooler evenings can be absolutely perfect. Sitting outside and enjoying the Colorado air is one of the many things I have come to appreciate about living here.
But no matter the weather, one thing that makes my work enjoyable is the people I meet.
I truly love being a notary and loan signing agent. Every appointment is an opportunity to meet someone new, hear a little bit of their story, and help them through an important moment in their lives. Whether I am helping someone sign documents for a home purchase, refinance, or another type of loan transaction, I enjoy knowing that I am playing a small but important role in the process.
Loan documents can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are many pages, signatures, initials, and dates, and it can be easy for someone to feel a little nervous about getting everything completed correctly. My job is to help make the signing process as smooth and comfortable as possible while following the requirements of my role as a notary and signing agent.
I especially enjoy meeting people in the Colorado Springs community. Each signing is different, and I never know who I will meet or what conversation we might have. Some appointments are quick and businesslike, while others lead to great conversations and connections that I genuinely appreciate.
So, while I may still miss the convenience of stepping into a nice, cool air-conditioned house during a hot Atlanta summer, I have grown to love summer in Colorado Springs. The sunshine, the mountains, the cooler evenings, and—most importantly—the people make it a wonderful place to live and work.
And if I happen to walk into a home on a warm summer afternoon and see a fan blowing instead of an air conditioner running, I just smile and remember: I may be from Atlanta, but I am a Colorado Springs notary now!
